Castelnau d'Auzan
In our village you will find a baker, grocery, pharmacy, doctor, dentist, post office and a
hairdressing salon. On tuesday morning there is a small vegetable market on the rural
square. For cash dispensers you have to visit Eauze, Montréal or Barbotan les Thermes.
A few times a year there are cow-fightings (the Course Landaise) in the arena of the village.
Within walking distance of Domaine "Le Poteau" you will find a fishpond, swimming pool,
courts, playground and a restaurant. Two splendid footpaths, straight through the vineyards and
surrounding area, have been marked. On the camp-site we play "Quille", this is a kind of
bowling or playing skittles, instead of throwing a ball we use a stick. On 10 km distance
is one of France most beautiful golf courses (Golf the Guinlet) with 18 holes; our guests
pay a special price. Nearby it is possible to have relaxing horseback rides in our
beautiful countryside too.
The landscape in the heart of southwest France, the Midi-Pyrénées, extends from the
wooded hills of the Dordogne, in the north, to the great river valleys of the center
and the majestic Pyrénées in the south. It is one of the largest regions in the country,
with a landscape of ancient towns, villages, castles, Romanesque churches and an
inexhaustible history.
The gastronomic excellence of the Midi-Pyrénées is unquestionable, whether you dine in a
chateau or in a local inn, you will taste wonderful Foie Gras, Magret de Canard,
Crustades, and drink excellent local wines, Floc de Gascogne (an aperitif, based on grape
juice with white Armagnac) and of course the famous "eau de vie" Armagnac.
We are sure that you will come back to this part of France.
Montréal du Gers
This is a small town that dominates the valley of l'Auzoue in the center of the Canton of
Montréal.
Montréal du Gers has a marvelous market square with arcades, interesting architecture and a
pretty view of the valley. Montréal du Gers is a bastide established in 1255. The definition
of bastide is simple: a concentrated form of of the rural habitat typical to the South West
France. It originated with the Counts of Toulouse as territorial and rehousing management
policy in mid-XIII century.
